Since we're all pretty much up to it, I figured I'd go ahead and create a thread for it. -------------------- First thing's first though, what kind of project are we gonna be doing? Beta? URA / Gaiden? Entirely new? Is Link still gonna be the main character for the game? Who's the bad guy and what's his story? -------------------- my ideas: While I'm pretty big on doing a beta restoration, I think I'd like to do something entirely new even more.
I personally would prefer if Link was the main character because I'm a canonical nut, but there are other character's I think would be pretty cool to see as the main character like Zelda herself (possibly Sheik), Ganondorf, Ralph from Zelda: Oracle of Ages, or Kafei.
as far as bad guys go, I think we should stray away from Ganondorf or Majora and do something new. though I'm not really a fan of him, I always wondered what it'd be like to see Vaati in 3d...

I'd be interested in doing some simple ASM/C hacks for this project after I'm done with my own personal things which will take a couple of weeks

Entirely new would be pretty neat. Maybe something like a alternate Zelda universe? I think a good way to throw around ideas is to arrange a time and place (like Skype or the IRC chat) and talk about story related material there. Even if no one agrees on this its probably best to arrange a date so we can all get together and discuss.

Well I'm intrested in helping out with graphics if you would like a graphics mod with it or to add new textures to the game. I don't know how to make it to where the graphic is always there but I sure can make a graphic and then send it to you guys to apply it into the game!

what if we converted the 2d building interiors of houses to 3d?
what if we made alternate dungeons?
sorta like master quest, only instead of rearranging switches and things, we make entire maps.

You mean, kinda like Termina, a world that shares many of the same faces but is entirely different and has it's own rules? And I agree, we should all talk about this on an IRC.

How about makeing a map that is a giant chess set and Link is one of the pieces. Moveing accordingly and actually playing chess! I don't think it is possible, but its worth a shot!

what if the chess peices were pushed around by link.
sorta like the fake armos.
can't imagine the horror that would be coding a zelda chess minigame/miniboss.

Would be easier than programming any miniboss like the ones already in the games, actually. That's because all the stuff you need to know when programming enemies is, to my knowledge, not well understood and poorly documented. I did once go through the Skulltula actor to see what all its functions did but I seem to have lost the notes I had on that. However, programming a chess game would not be too difficult and I have considered doing it before, though never got around to it. As long as you know how chess works then in theory you are capable of programming it. The difficult part would probably be how it appears; would you have one main actor controlling multiple objects or would it be graphics-based, etc.

I think Link pushing the pieces sounds better. But the other question is how would the opponents pieces move. They should move by themselves but it just doesn't sound possible for the opponents pieces to move automaticly without the help of Link.

would be similar to coding an AI to play against in chess.
just make the AI's peices move without link pushing them.

So, we should figure out a date or time when most of us will be on to discuss this.
