New song I've been working on for a while now called Seaside Heights from Kirby's Walkband (the name is still obligatory and may change) in demo progress based off of water themes from previous kirby games. The songs in KW were never to be finished because of it being an imaginative fan game and all...this is just one of them I had in my mind for a long time now and I just had to bring it to reality, I know it sucks and I'm still working on it! sounding better each day I guess with the limited instruments I have. Another level idea I had was Mushtop Mountains which would have been the first or third level (hence Seaside Heights is the second) in the game but I haven't got a beat off that one yet and I'm not sure whether or not the music in the game would have variations in the levels like Act 1 or Act 2 (for example Seaside Heights 1, Seaside Heights 2) but I'll talk more of the story in KW later. Stuff used to make this song were some selective instruments in Mixcraft, my Yamaha PSR-E223 Keyboard and Imitone; a software I was telling punk and you guys about months ago that can turn your voice into midi. Its still in beta so I had to use my keyboard for the percussion and imitone for the melodies and remove some of the pitch and vibrato filters, etc. but it is a great tool to use for making music so I would recommend it to anybody and you can watch some videos of it in action on youtube. Download midi here.

I like the melody progression, has a pleasantly jazzy sense of movement. The rhythm and instrument changes are quite nice as well EDIT: Couldn't help but try my hand at it. I really like your song's melody, had a field day with it here: Seaside Heights (smooth)

I'm still working on it and found some new notes to add to the bit that plays before the end loop probably using the trumpet sample and maybe some extra percussion. Yep my imagination is wild.

In case anyone is wondering about the story (fan made) in Kirby's Walkband, it starts out on a new planet oblivious to dream land called musical land where kirby comes to relax from his previous adventures by listening to the wonderful musical notes that hop, move around and play they're tune all over the planet but one day the evil dream piano (almost another dark zero incarnate) was jealous of the notes and their musical scores and wanted only his music to be played and heard on musical land. So he turns the planet upside down and fills it with monsters, also kidnapping musical lands most beautiful dream maidens that sing along with the notes on musical land. Now kirby sets off to a new adventure to rescue the maidens and stop the evil dream piano once and for all. The fan game is a combination of previous kirby games like Kirby's Dreamland 3, Kirby SuperStar, Kirby 64 and many others just to get an idea of what the game would look like I also imagine it having a sort of new drawing style sort of graphics like okami and in KW you can use all of kirbys famous power ups from eating foes but your main partner from this new series will be walky and of course the musical notes of musical land. Anyways that's all the ideas I have for the Kirby's Walkband for now.

Nice job guys I like both of them! I was thinking we should do a collaboration some time. We'd use a set soundfont and limit ourselves to it.

Nice job guys I like both of them! I was thinking we should do a collaboration some time. We'd use a set soundfont and limit ourselves to it. Totally! We should make a main folder in the sample drive and upload samples we want to use for collaboration based on our skill sets for the music we make sound good? Of course royalty free samples only but we could add a second folder for songs made with video game samples for hobbiest use.

I was thinking a soundfont would be better suited for this so we don't go overboard and add a bunch of other samples to the songs. I was thinking of using mostly sounds from Roland/old sound modules. I'd just go around sampling them and we could use stuff based on that. I'll try and add a good variety if both of you want to do this so that we can use many different sounds. Or if both of you are geared toward one genre in particular, I'd find some stuff suited for that. I was also thinking less would be more in this case and show most of our creative talent (by this I mean I would only put about 50 presets in the SF2 rather then a full 127). Though, let me know what you guys think on this.

Great idea! What if we submitted a few of our favorite samples from each of us in one folder like 10-15 or something samples at the most (I don't need to add that much or anything fancy for my stuff and I like the samples you guys use) and compile them all into one soundfont? If you want you can do it punk since you want to use roland sounds which is good, so you can keep it updated. I guess just give us time to upload the selective samples we want to use for this one universal super soundfont lol yes I'm calling it that XD man this is going to be awesome and I think we can make it work if we try. Also share sounds with each other that mimic roland sounds or sound exactly like the desired sound for better use for the soundfont and we can just use those samples you mentioned punk. My internet is a little bummed at the moment but I will try to upload my favorite samples I'd like to use for the soundfont no later than june, I can go ahead and make the folder in the drive and mark it so you guys can see it and get started uploading yours in that folder as well and when we're all done then compile it to sf2. Edit: Made a folder and made a separate folder for the samples I upload for no confusion, you guys can do the same and the final compiled soundfont+updates if any needed will go in the "Universal Sounfont" folder.

Sounds good. I think I'll start off with 20 or so presets for starts then both of you can add around 10-20 of your favorite stuff. It would be best if you two could add your fav stuff in one soundfont file then all the dirty work of linking each sample would be already done for me. I'd just simply drag and drop so the soundfont would be done in no time. I have a bit of time today so I'll go through some of my favs and get that all sorted out.

I'm glad you like it. I actually sampled some bits and pieces from your version, you may have noticed. Some of your percussion is in use in that little remix. I took the ending of your demo version, just the guitar and some string fading to silence, played it at C6, made it fairly wet with reverb+delay and some stereo shaping, and cut a few milliseconds off the initial transient of the recording. Voila, instant cool ambient hit.
Sounds awesome, I'll throw together ten, fifteen soundfonts to use. I'll get some good samples in there.

Well crap. I can't seem to get Constant Controller numbers 72 to get exported in midi from FL Studio. It's for release time. Anyone know about this? I was going to relay heavily on it since I was thinking we'd just share midi's back and forth. (Sorry for kinda high-jacking your thread, dj4uk6cjm!)

Yeah those are the only ones that seem to work for some reason. I can't get attack, decay or release time to get exported in the midi file. They work inside it but never get exported.

Awesome guys! And that's perfectly alright punk, no problem really lol I actually started rambling of the ideas about the soundfont first. This is the best off topic discussion I've ever had!!! and heres the midi for Seaside Heights if anyone wants it yadi.sk/d/ZRlXpDurgw938 it's still WIP because I haven't arranged it to sound like the mp3 version yet, you can tell by the lack of controller parameters since I was using Mixcrafts default Virtual Instrument controllers which don't get saved to midi but you can mess around with it if you want, I'll work some more on it later for my Kirby's Walkband ambition, it's real. Also you can move your hand made soundfont to the universal sample folder if you'd like exciter just make a labeled separate folder and put it in there. Edit: Updated the midi with a loop and proper instruments, controllers still need fixing unfortunetely. Added updated midi to the main post.
