Are you you an adult or a child? If you're a child, you get a heart piece for the first fish larger than 8lb that you catch then you get rupees. If you're an adult, you get a golden scale for the first fish larger than 10lb that you catch, then you get rupees. The best places to fish are by the wooden posts and where the dead log is at. The largest fish is usually the one by the log.
Also, I think the steal the rod glitch is only possible is v1.0. You'll know you have the right cart if it's gold.

nop. non-glitchwise, I know OoT well enough to write a 100% walkthrough without turning on the console, and I'm tellin ya that unless its some hack or glitch, you get the golden scale as an adult. You can get the silver scale from the Zora's Fountain as a kid.

This thread is hilariously confused.
You do not need a scale to perform RBA at all. Speedrunners usually get it simply to grab the Ruto Bottle (as you need a bottle to get things going). You're probably just doing the trick wrong/not trying hard enough/press L to hover
To get the Golden Scale as a child, catch a fish that ties/beats the current record. Enter water deep enough so that Link will start swimming. Face the fishing guy, hold Z, and go all the way to the fishing guy and talk to him without letting go of Z to get the Golden Scale.

There is more to OoT speedrunning than Any%. You have MST and 100%, then you also have stuff like child dungeons. Then there are live competitions hosted on Speedrunslive where people play bingo or puzzle races where you must complete a specific goal, usually without utilizing various items. Also, that run is outdated.

Again, I say that you can only get the gold scale as an adult, not as a kid. If he gets Zelda's Lullaby and uses the collision glitch in the Lost Woods, he could get into Zora's Domain early and play the diving game; better yet if he was playing OoT3D, he could just escape the forest early and perform a Sword warp/Navi-sink at Lake Hylia to get into Zora's Domain early and play the diving the game. But you can't get the gold scale as a child without a gameshark code or one of those wacky inventory glitches.

I can get to Ganon's Tower as an adult without TAS in just a little over 20 minutes.

That's pretty cool.
It took me a lot of practice to do the Door of Time skip with a deku stick.
I still haven't mastered bomb(chu) hovering either.

I don't know, I never tried them. I'm a nut about making sure my number of deaths says 000, but supposedly, it does. BTW, that how I do it

^ on the btw above, I was saying I did it the same way as you, not the die with gohma / cutscene glitch thing. My choice of words wasn't the best But yeah, I thought it was faster to do it the ole' fashion way too. The only sucky thing is that I can only pull it off on a real console, it's just too hard to do a ToT skip with a keyboard.
