Restating what has been said multiple times before and attempting to point out an irrelevant potential flaw in one's logic leads to petty arguments. Let me attempt to set this issue straight. First, replace the water mesh texture with a lava texture. This can be done either via a plugin or ZLE2, depending on the purpose and preference. If the texture is still translucent (it sounds like the combiner is controlling this), SayakaGL is the tool to use for that purpose. Contact xdan about that if you need help understanding the method. Then, you'll want to pull up the collision geometry to be just under the waterbox mesh such that it matches with the water level. Then you simply change the collision type to match with the lava in Death Mountain Crater--according to this list, it should be 0x08.
