Basically for a mod I'm working on, I want to make it so you start the game in a different spot than Link's House. So can anyone point me in the right direction of some documentation on the start of the game, or if you know how this could be done? I also do not need the intro cutscene, so if anyone knows how this can be disabled, that would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Black Rose,
I did a quick browse of the wiki (not very thorough in my defense) and did not see anything on this. I only post because I have had an interest in this as well. I wanted to do it in my mod, but could never find a way.
So I second the request!

It can be done by changing an entry in the exit table (I can post specifics if you guys aren't sure). It will still run the second cutscene in whatever area you try to load though but that can be fixed by removing the pointer to that cutscene in the scene file. Maybe I won't be so lazy and will actually find where it sets which cutscene to load at some point.

Hmmm... I've always avoided gaining knowledge about the scene files/exit tables and such because I was too lazy to work with a hex editor, but now seems to be a good time to look into it. Deathbasket, do you suggest reading up on the wiki to gain knowledge on scene files and the exit table?

So, if my brain is working correctly, the best thing to do would be to play with the exits by testing all the kokiri forest cutscene ones until I get the one where the game starts? Then find in the rom where the game actually gives that exit for the start of a new file, and change the exit number to a different exit, which would in turn change how link starts off in the game?

...no. The game starts off in Link's house which is a different scene from Kokiri Forest. You need to find the entries for Link's house in the exit table and change them to use a different scene number.

Assuming I understood JSA's thread correctly, I believe you would have to go look at the data between offsets 0xB9F69C and 0xB9F6A0 in ROM and change that to your desired starting position. 0xB9F69C is the exit table entry for the starting cutscene (Ganondorf, Zelda, Impa, and Link near Hyrule Castle Town). By modifying this entry, you can change what the starting cutscene is and change where you start the game. To modify that entry (or any other exit table entry) replace those values according to this format: AA BB CC DD AA = scene number (00 through 6D) BB = Entrance number (you can find these by looking at the scene files) CC = Variable DD = Fade Here is the exit table I am referring to. Study this page if you wish to find which entrance is which in the scene you wish to start off in.

Great progress have you made young ones. Impressed I am with your advanced knowledge. </Yoda>
Great info everyone. Now that my mod is done, it was just for informational purposes. I really had no idea we knew so much. although I do not see much about cut scene data. Is this an area we are lacking knowledge in?

wiki.spinout182.com/w/CutscenesThat's the entirety of our knowledge right now. Nobody ever bothered to document cutscenes for some reason (maybe it was overlooked?) so it's still pretty new to everyone. I've only made one custom cutscene so far and all it consisted of was a few frames from one camera angle just so I could test what data is actually needed.

I believe custom cutscenes can be made using the debug camera, if my memory serves me correct? And sorry Death, for some reason i was thinking kokiri when i shouldve been thinking link's house. But anyways, seems great progress has been made here, thank you Jason, too. I will mess around with it ASAP and post my results!
