I did some research and found out that Ocarina of Time uses JFIF for the static backgrounds (Market, Link's House, etc...). Well, I extracted some of those files with a hex editor and edited them in MSPAINT. (how easy!) Then I used the hex editor to place them back in. It took me about 2 minutes to do this. Here's some videos of it Here's a graphic I extracted from the Debug ROM. ;D

That involves loading textures via a plugin that supports it. For those who prefer Jabo's (for example), that method won't work. This method, as I understand it, saves the background to the ROM so it shows up regardless of the plugin used.

Correct! No plugins were used to dump the background, to put all the tiles back together would be too much of a pain. This method goes into the ROM it's self and alters the actual JFIF file... here's a video

Haha, lol. I recommend using MSPAINT. I think photoshop is too advanced and maybe leaves some extra info in the jfif header that OoT doesn't recognize. Good try tho!

If Photoshop doesn't work then just open the file you saved in paint and save it as JFIF.

Oh yea! Only the original size works, a pixel wider or taller screws it up

JFIF is jpeg/jpg... It should render with any extra jfif chunks, it must be the right size though.

~~ joseph ~~ what are the filesizes of your JFIFs? I imported my own but it ended up being more than 50kb and the one I got from the ROM itself was only 13kb. I don't know if that's just my image being more complex though. Also Photoshop seems to output JFIF 1.02, I don't know if that's compatible with OoT.
